Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon, who took care of him at the farm they owned in Eufala. Also, he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. A year later, in 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. Oklahoma was the winner of two National Championships during the three years he was a starting linebacker. Third scholarship he was named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Fourth Service in the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week in volunteer projects. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Additionally, he started a career in the field of business. By 1988 he had become an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked for these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no doubt that Lee Roy was named one of the top 10 notable young people in America by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 lbs. He captained his college team in 1975. He was promoted to assistant director of Athletics for the University of South Florida, in 1993. In 1988 He was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was inducted into an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor of Oklahoma who conferred this award.
